I have been researching late blooming apples for my location in high
elevation New Mexico. We get such big swings between day and night
temperatures that early bloomers are likely to get frosted. Sam's list is
very similar to ones that I have come up with. Please note that I haven't
been here long enough to test them here. I may have more info after this
bloom season. You might also consider Elstar, Porter, King of the Pippins,
Akane, Rubnette, Roxbury Russet, Smokehouse, Stearns & Fiesta. I have
noticed some inconsistencies between the Brogdale site & the New Book of
Apples (England), versus Apples for the 21st Century (Oregon), versus Trees
of Antiquity Catalogs(Califonia) versus other sources. The bulk of things
remains the same but some appear to be different perhaps less temperature
based and more daylength based? Golden Delicious is successful here so I
have used that as a yardstick and I consider apples that bloom around the
same time or later that is assuming that bloom time info is even available
for the particular apples.

Some of Sam's list I have dropped because we have a short cool season and
ones like Arkansas Black probably won't ripen here.

I was intrigued by your message and so I did a quick check of internet
resources and these are some late-blooming apple cultivars according to
various sources. It would be good to have some of the list members who have
experience with these cultivars comment on whether they really are late
blooming. -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn.
