I understand the Hmong are a tribe from Cambodia
which supported the US during the Vietnam War. Some were relocated to the
United States after that war when the Kumar Rogue took
over in Cambodia. Many were relocated to Western Montana and
are now well integrated into the community. The older generation
still rarely speak English but their children are usually totally Americanized.
The Hmong community are mostly farmers and produces many, perhaps most, of the
vegetables around Missoula. I think most of their sales are through local
farmers markets. I would not be surprised if this is typical of other
places where they were settled after the war since I understand they
were mostly farmers in their home country.
