I can see no problem with using chips from most trees as a mulch. I have done so myself with satisfactory results. The one thing I would like to mention is that you should NEVER use anything from an American black walnut tree in soil which will be used for other crops. This includes; leaves, chips, sawdust, or hulls. The walnut tree wants to be a loner and all that is connected with it will poison the soil for other crops.
