Ginda - We spread the acorn slurry on a tray about 1/2" deep and set the tray on bricks on our wood stove. We stir it a couple of times and it dries to a kind of meal that we have stored for 2 years and use in pancakes, and bread, or stew/soup. I've read it's very nutritious. Hector Black zone 6 middle TN

Subject: [NAFEX] Acorn recipes?

So I'm impressed by all the paens to acorns. One of the reasons I
can't grow as many fruit trees as I'd like (and the ones that I do
grow grow slowly and fruit sparsely) is that I have a lot of mature
oak trees on my 1/3 acre, including three bearing white oaks in the
front. This year the drought has given us a small crop of small
acorns, but last year and two years ago we had bumper crops, and I
had to pay the kids to pull up the oak seedlings that sprouted
everywhere. Even in a good year, my white acorns are small, but it
would be easy to gather a couple of pounds of them in a couple of
minutes.

So, I'd love recipes using acorns. I have a blender, I could get a
vice grip. After I shell them and blend them and pour off the cloudy
water, what do I do with the remaining acorn slurry?

(I have red and black oaks in the back. I've always felt that the
raw red acorns taste better than raw white acorns, although in both
cases you need to wait for the bitter flavor to subside to taste
anything else. I may experiment with them, too.)

Thanks,
Ginda
