- Subject: [NAFEX] blackberries / raspberries for zone 4

Hello Jim and Friends;
I am also looking for a good Blackberry for PRODUCTION in zone 4
Maine.
Illini Hardy looks like it died back to the ground, or at least half way
down the Primocanes. This year I will try protection. (for the plant, wise
guys). Fort Kent sounds like a winner I will be sure to try.
Navajo Blackberries just EXPLODE here in southern Mass. zone 6.
Real big berries, and a lot of them.
Crown borers took a few canes this year, but that was my fault. Spraying,
but forgot the crowns. DUH !!!
Highly recommended.
In Maine zone 4, Red Raspberries, everbearing, Caroline and Autumn Britten
simply Kicked Ass !!!!
Even in the somewhat clayish soil. I chopped them down at Thanksgiving, and
they came back strong and loaded, tipping to the ground with fruit. Caroline's
taste is excellent, but not your normal raspberry. Some folks really loved them,
while others preferred the classic old-school stuff. I love both.
Somebody shoot me or I'll keep talking.
