After trying figs in-ground here in hot zone 6(southern KY, just north of the TN line) for several years - with and without protection, I finally gave up and 'moved' (rooted cuttings) of all mine to pots. Still have a couple (LSU Purple, and an unidentified variety) in the ground, and yes, they re-grow after freezing back to ground level every year, but most years, they don't manage to ripen the fruits they set on new growth. I did get a few LSU figs last year, and seems like I got ONE Brown Turkey, years ago, when it was still surviving.
