Someone on the list posted a link, from which further exploration led to this photograph:

which is a photograph of the rootstock apple Bud-118 heavy with fruit.

At NAFEX convention in New Hampshire a few years back, one of the speakers with cider apple orchard said Bud-118 was being tested for cider to contribute some quality of taste or another.  I thought this photo was interesting because the photo suggests the tree can bear about as heavy as any well known fruiting apple.   Bud-118 is nearly a standard-size tree, but is also productive young, unusual for standard-size-type apple rootstocks, and imparts this productive young trait to its grafted on varieties.  Has anyone tasted Bud-118's own apples?  What do they taste like?
