A couple or few years back, I wrote a Pomona article on growing blueberry bushes in an unopened bale of peat moss with a few holes cut in the skin for drainage. See http://home.comcast.net/~ptallman/blueberries.html
I'm still thrilled this method is working so well.
The idea for this type of blueberry culture arose out of a local newspaper gardening writer suggesting a possible way to grow lingonberries in spite of inappropriate soil conditions.
