Canola oil is made from the pressed seeds of brassica rapa (rapeseed)
member of the brassica (broc, caulif etc) family. It is supposed to be
very god for you (unsaturated fats).
Interesting aside-- rapeseed was the plant chosen to go on a space
shuttle mission a few years back to determine seed viability for
reproduction in space. BR has one of the shortest sprout to seed cycles
which is why it was chosen. Back in another life (education at The
National Air and Space Museum) I had 2 of our "adopted" D.C. schools
conducting the same experiments that the astronauts were doing (in real
time) courtesy of a grant and gardening equipment supplied by the
National Gardening Assn.

I avoid canola oil because it tastes nasty, but I've mostly heard
about how healthy it's supposed to be. What scary stuff have you
heard about it?
