- Subject: [NAFEX] Using nylons to bag fruit
- Date: Mon, 29 May 2006 13:56:58 -0700 (PDT)
Someone on the Gardenweb said that they have used disposable nylon footies the past five years to cover apples, peaches, and pears with great success. She used a twist tie to secure them. The complete thread, which references NAFEX experimental plastic bagging, is below.
The nylon bagging is towards the end.
The only place I have found these on line is below...$10 for 144.
I'm going to try some to see if they work for my area for plums and peaches. I like the fact that the nylon material will stretch, which may allow bagging a group of plums
and the nylon will just stretch as they grow.
I think the organza bags I started to use this year may not be the best..they may be too porous, allowing bugs to spear the fruit through the bags. Only time will tell...
