Rowan is the old name for Hawthorne.

While traveling in the UK I had something called Highland Rowan jelly,
which if I recall correctly is made from mountain ash or a close
relative. I tend to like slightly "musky(?)" jellys like currant, and
the rowan jelly is one of my favorites! I order it occasionally via the
web from the same producer in Scotland. I wonder why you got such a
"woody" flavor?
