Yeah, I remember that article, I thought it was pretty neat, but now I'm
using Micromalus rootstock for apples. Apparently voles don't like the
taste, and it doesn't get the wooly apple aphids like some of the other
rootstocks.
However, the fact remains that apples don't like our soil or our
climate, and that it's a whole lot easier to grow pears, plums, peaches (if
I can just get the borers under control) chestnuts, blueberries, and
blackberries. I keep trying, but you can do about the same things with
pears that you can do with apples. Donna
