I have the Red Anjou, I love it, it is very hardy and an annual producer in marginal sunlight.   They do need pollinators.

The two growers in Pennsylvania who tried most of the red-skinned pears 
available then in the late 1980's considered them all worthless.  Wish I could 
find the reference.
