By the way, does anybody know if clover will grow where a Black Walnut was
just cut down?

Crimson clover is reported as not being able to grow, but white clover is
reported to do fine. Juglone will stay in the soil for years after cutting.
Addition of organic material or planting into new soil on top of the walnut
remains will allow growth of juglan-sensitive plants, as there would be no
walnut root penetration or dropping of litter from the tree. Unless it
comes back...
