Del,

If your orchard is only 6-7 years old, you should be thinking of summer
pruning,
not winter pruning.

If you check my website, you'll see that you just have to watch out for risers
less than 12". This isn't hard to do. You summer-prune those over 12".

What rootstocks are you using? On M9s, M26s, and MM106 we'd have them all
blooming
by 6-7 years.

The fruit buds are fat whereas the vegetative buds are thin and lie flat
along the
branch. Then there are spurs with clusters of fruit buds.

: Now that my orchard is going into its 6 to 7 year age - it's time it started
thinking
: about blooming - it had 6 varieties of my about 80 bloom last year a little
bit.
It's pruning time

: Thanks, Del, Z3 N. MN where it looks like the maple sap has just quit.
