What about apple variety synonymous names?
Cornucopia lists synonyms with the main listing - eg Yellow Bellflower (Bishop's Pippin).
It doesn't have one list of apples to check, though, as they are listed under type:
Cider apples
Cooking apples:
Summer
Fall
Winter
Crab apples:
Cooking
Dessert
Dessert apples:
Summer
Fall
Winter
Many of the varieties have a bibliographic reference. There are hundreds of books in the bibliography, but it is arranged alphabetically by author, not by subject.
