This is mostly true, but some of the more tender M.alba selections, like Pakistan, Cat's Tail, etc. have leaves equally as large as those on my M.rubra trees - though they're not rough like the M.rubra.
The hybrids of M.alba and M.rubra, which do occur in nature, may be intermediate between the two parent species.
