Steve,
To our taste, what we bought from other sources and what's at the NCGR are
very similar. Seedlings from Crandall in our yard are indistinguishable from
the parents, at least for bloom, scent, yield and flavor.
For R. odoratum improvement, I'd suggest selecting for concentrated fruit
ripening, and shorter stemmed (less droopy) plants. Yes they can be tipped
back, but the ornamental /landscape value suffers when heavy fruitset pulls
the long stems over.

There seems to be any number of seedling Ribes odoratum around under
the
'Crandall' name. Does anyone have material that they believe is true
to
name? Or perhaps 'Crandall' is now so confused that it'd best be
abandoned.
If there is no true to name stuff, perhaps new and improved odoratum
is
floating around in someone's currant patch?
