I usually bark graft pecans in the spring with reasonable success but didn't get about ten stocks done this spring.
In the past I've had reasonable success using Davies's greenwood tip grafting on walnuts but not pecans. It has rained almost every day for a week and I can irrigate them also so they are vigorous. The wood at grafting height is 3 or 4 yr.Suggestions:graft w dormant, greenwood,or wait till next
spring?If suggest greenwood, what method?
Keith,
I'm still grafting some dormant-collected pecan & hickory scionwood, but did do a few greenwood grafts this weekend of one hickory that I just couldn't get takes of with dormant scions this spring, for whatever reason.
I do the little 'coin-purse' type greenwood bud technique that I learned from the KNGA folks, but have done a few greenwood tip grafts with black walnuts with decent success.
