- Subject: [NAFEX] machine harvest of grapes
- Date: Mon, 07 Jun 2004 11:52:59 -0700
After deleting the recent letter in this thread, I thought of one reason
growers might leave the nets on for machine harvest of Niagara grapes.
Harvesting machines usually are property of a co-op and there could be
delays in getting from one vineyard to the next. In that case, you wouldn't
want to take the nets off the vines as that would leave them open to birds
until the harvester arrived. Taken in that context, a method that harvests
through the nets makes sense. It also means the grower could leave the nets
on until such time as labor to remove them was more readily available, and
possibly cheaper.
