The "waspy" looking bug is a snake fly. He's a good guy. Good predator
and all that. In the same family as green lacewings and ant lions.
The "red and black" looking bug is a Brown Leatherwing (or one of the
100 or species of leatherwing/soldier beetles). In the Cantharidae
family. The books don't say much about them except they are mostly
pollen and nectar feeders, and that some of the larvae are predacious on
other insects. I have lots and lots of them, and except for being an
annoyance, they don't seem to harm my fruit trees nor my roses.

One of the best things about Oregon is I have yet to
see a <shudder> japanese beetle. Earwigs are bad but
at least they are mostly just out at night.
I managed to take pictures - learned that it's almost
impossible to photograph a bug on a tree; but if I
shake the tree the bugs fall off. If no one knows, or
can point me to a site, I'll write to Prof. Lang.

about 1/2"-3/4" long, the entire body is fire
engine red (I had the color pattern backwards)

maybe 2" long including spike
This is one popular plum tree - got some ladybugs too.
Even a non-spotted ladybug, plain red.
