Commercial growers commonly use crab apples trained as a single, tall pole, which takes up essentially no space.  The important point is to be sure the bloom period of the crab ovelaps with the bearing variety.



Why don't you consider one of Stark's columnar apples (and they offer a crab)
for a pollenizer?  Takes much less space and you can keep it quite small with
little
effort.   (or you could live near me and have the deer prune it for free)
