Yes, I could use more mulch and more mulch, although it worsens my already
bad vole problem. But what is done to grow the watermelons I buy in the
summer which I'm often told were grown in sandy soil in Texas? I can't
imagine the commercial watermelon growers in Texas are mulching all of their
fields. Doesn't their sandy soil run out of nutrition, or are they just
adding lots of fertilizer every year?
David Consolvo
P.S. If I could grow them, I would admit that watermelons are my favorite
fruit.
