Hello Ed,

Are most red currants non-suckering, or is this a trait of some less domesticated varieties?

Thanks,

Your best bet may be to cut much oa one bush back to the ground (or a couple inches from the ground) and then either bend one of the new canes down and root it by layering, or take a cutting od the new canes that sprout up from the base. It may be well to apply some fertilizer around the plant in early spring also.  Ed Mashburn
