- Subject: [NAFEX] Little Giant vs. Chandler Blueberries
- Date: Mon, 15 Dec 2003 22:53:47 -0500
The smaller blueberries have 5-10 times more antioxidants per cup compared
to the larger sized ones typically available fresh in groceries. This is
because most of the antioxidants are in the skin. Comparing Little Giant to
Chandler, I wouldn't be surprised if one cup Little Giant has same
antioxidants as one gallon Chandler. Granted, there are many reasons to eat
blueberries, and big ones such as Chandler are a novelty. Anyone know
comparisons of yields of Chandler vs. others?
With much blueberry harvest now mechanized, berry size may not be as
important as yield; though for U-pick, some folks I know seek out places
offering the largest berries.
The trend in larger and larger blackberries is not affecting antioxidant
content, and these are dark throughout.
Anyone aware of much larger cherries (sour or sweet), juneberries
(Saskatoons), or black raspberries now available?
