I see this one periodically, mainly as multistemmed shrubs in the edge of older homes - both here in W.KY, and have seen it at the U of KY's Robinson Forest forestry research center in eastern KY. No evidence of winter damage that I've noticed. Nor have I ever seen any evidence of fruit - but I'll have to say I haven't really looked, either.
