I've never done ti, but there are past threads about painting tree trunks in the archives. I recall that people generally use latex paint thinner with about equal parts water. Oil paint can be too thick and cause problems with water or something not penetrating it.

Bob,

I used the cheapest indoor latex house paint to prevent sun scald on fruit trees like avocados that were stumped or had been seriously frost damaged so they suffered a loss of all of their leaves.

Depending on the plant species I would suggest mixing the paint with various parts of water so I could spray it on using a power sprayer if you have a lot of trees to cover or even a Hudson hand sprayer on a few trees.

I'm sure this has been covered before... But I need to apply something to the trunks of my new fruit trees to prevent sunscald in our snowy and occasionally sunny winters. In the dark days of my youth we used to paint the trunks in the orchard with white paint. But I can't recall what was in the paint. Can I just use regular latex paint, or do I have to get something special?
Or is paint in general an outdated concept? If so, what should I use?
Thanks
