Are you saying the Exchange Page would be part of the listserv, or accessible thru a link at the NAFEX website ? Here my technical knowledge ends. But I have email access on average once per week, and I have problems w/ it filling to capacity. Would opening the listserv to even the restrained, polite, & helpful commercial listings cause even more over-filling of my email ? Should I get an email account just for the NAFEX listserv ? I'm thinking-out-loud here, not trying to whine. But I do wonder if the listserv would become a lot of emails of big graphics of 200 to 300k. I like the Exchange Page, a great place to receive or distribute, and it would help everyone to have it more accessible, & more frequently than quarterly.
And I hope NAFEXers will let me know how much more I need to learn about this !

Is there any way to make an on-line version of the Exchange Page? I know
that I have participated more in NAFEX discussions and learned more about
fruit exploring by joining this on-line discussion group. I wonder if
having the Exchange Page on-line would cause an equally beneficial shift in
the way people participate in NAFEX. I don't know how this would be
implemented... I'm just throwing out an idea. And let's not turn this
thread into another debate on whether Pomona articles should be on-line.
Last year we had that discussion, and Pomona continues only to be available
in printed form.

Subject: [NAFEX] Raspberry seed offer

Recently there was a thread from someone looking for raspberries. In the
course of the discussion, Dr. Parmar from India offered material (seed, I
believe) of a raspberry species from India. Someone else objected to the
offer as a sort of commercialization.
Since there are people on this list who are not members of NAFEX, it's
worth pointing out that NAFEX has had a long tradition of an Exchange Page
in it's journal, POMONA, in which members can make plant material available
for trade or for a small price, usually just about enough to pay for the
postage and the member's time in sending it.
In this case, it seemed that what Dr. Parmar was doing was in the same
spirit as the Exchange Page, since he was hardly posting a huge ad or
demanding an exhorbitant fee, and what he was offering was relevant to the
thread to which it was connected.
There are many members of NAFEX who have nurseries or large collections
of certain species and I fail to see that there is any harm in them being
allowed to make a modest mention of it. Certainly it's unobtrusive enough
to note it in the signature. Most members have enough common sense to know
not to abuse the privalege, and we have a moderator for those rare
individuals that do.
