It is a good way to create rootstock of varieties which do not stool
readily, such as Ottawa-3. Use seedling rootstock, graft pieces of
Ottawa-3 to it, and bury the union deep. The O-3 eventually sends
out its own roots. One can cut off the seedling root when one lifts
the rootstock to line out, or just leave it.
