I don't know what does well in MI, but in Massachusetts, I am very happy with "Fall Red", which I picked out of about 5 cultivars (including Heritage) because I liked the flavor. I have had a little trouble with cane borers, and last year, with squirrels, who also like the flavor.

Does anybody have any raspberry recommendations for South Central MI? I have several of each of Heritage (of course), Latham, something called "Indian Red" (probably a nomen nudem), and Fall Gold (the only good performer last year, but then again I planted everything last spring). I'm looking to put in another dozen or so bushes this year. I'm looking for taste and vigor over yield.

And just my two cents on exotics: A rose is a weed in a potato patch. I prefer native plantings for my prairie, but I do like a fair number of non-native plants for food. I would recommend that people look for sterile cultivars of exotic species, if they are available.
