The country was largely deforested, when a Hungarian noble introduced the
tree (from France I believe) prior to 1800. Now it is the basis of the honey
crop there,
Honey from Black Locust is a premium honey, fairly rare and hard
to produce. It has a very light color and a mild mild flavor. I
extracted 50 to 60 lbs. one year and sold it at a premium price. It is
ideal to compliment a fine tea.
The blossoms are subject to damage by wind, rain and cold
temperature.
