Gord,
I used a 5 gal. backpack sprayer. The rate was 1/2 lb of kaolin per gallon of water. If I remember correctly, a full coffee can equals about 1/2 lb. Basically, Surround is nothing more than kaolin clay plus a sticker/spreader. If you are going to be using straight kaolin it might be worth your while to buy a sticker/spreader and mix it right in the tank.

What application rates are you using. Does kaolin clay (not surround) need
a spreader/sticker?

Ozzie,

I started out using straight kaolin 3 years ago and then bought some
Surround to see if it worked any better. I think it spreads a little
easier. Last year I mixed the two together 50/50 because I'm trying to
use the kaolin up. My mixture worked just fine.

Doreen, Ed, Phil,
Are you guys talking about straight kaolin or the more refined
commercial
product marketed as "Surround?" Thanks,
Richard (Ozzie to you, cuz)

Doreen,
We have used Kaolin now for about 4 years I guess in Watertown, WI.

Doreen,
I used kaolin clay on most of my apple trees last year and had very
good control of plum curculio which is my nemesis here in Maine.
