It was written:

I'm getting some great ideas of things to try for good flavor from the
strawberry discussions. Thanks everyone.
I really like my alpine strawberries for flavor and long season, but I
really have trouble getting much of a yield from them. Any suggestions?

My reply:

Try selective breeding. :)

Seriously...you could do all of us a favor, and truly contribute something
valuable to mankind.

Other than that alpines like dappled shade, constant moisture, humus, and
lots of earthworms.

Warmest regards,

TFB

My experience persimmon grafting:

http://members.fortunecity.com/pjsauber/PersimmonGrafting.htm
http://members.fortunecity.com/pjsauber/HangingGraft.htm

cleft grafting prior to bud break - no luck

cleft grafting after bud break - some luck

t-budding after bark slips and before 90F weather - very good

hanging bud in fall with weather below 90F and bark not slipping - 8 out of 10

I'm glad someone reminded me again, yesterday I did two chip buds on dormant
wood. I'm waiting for bud break before trying again. I have 10 rootstocks to
experiment with this year bought from Womacks.

Richard,
I have grafted persimmons only once, and none of them took. I grafted them
at the same time I did a bunch of apple trees. Both the apple and persimmon
trees were dormant. Most of the apples took. I later learned that I should
have waited until the persimmon was actively growing to do the grafts. To
anyone with more experience... does that advice sound right?
-Mark

Kaki persimmons from Chris Inhulsen have inspired us to plant several trees
here in Zone 6.
I just dug several young persimmon trees (2-4') from an area being cleared,
taking along a large ball of dirt in each case. Am setting these trees out,
to graft selected American and Kaki persimmons on them.
