It certainly does vary. Red Delicious is more easily ruined
than old fashioned Delicious. There is one unnamed tree in
Lewiston we have picked at the end of October and into November,
which shows no ill effects from repeated freezes and keeps well
all winter. Granny Smith grown in Maine must have several
freezes before it is a really fine flavored apple, and picked
around November 15 if not ruined by then. Golden Delicious
should be picked a bit earlier, probably by October 25.
