Subject: a real johnny appleseed tree
lon,
thanks for helping me out. i'm a reporter with the Cleveland (Ohio) Plain Dealer and I am looking for an apple tree that was planted by Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman). This quest is like the hunt for the Holy Grail. I have been to the Algeo farm, I have been to Granville, Mt. Vernon, Newark and Richmond Ind. I have no proof that is definitive on any of those claims: Just hand-me-down legends. Could there be a proven tree someplace? What's the buzz out there in NAFEX? Who has hunted for the tree, and what have they found?
Any insights, sightings, tales of the hunt etc. will be appreciated. I am trying to write a story for Sept. 26, his birthday. Thanks.
