Years ago I solved the bird problem by planting my grapevines vines in rows
so that I can cover them with easily available plastic netting. I but 40
foot long nets, I forget how wide, but they are wide enough to surround the
vines. I use inexpensive metal rods from the welding shop to weave the ends
and undersides of the nets together to completely enclose the vines. Not one
bird gets in.
