I've been a similar route. Pistachios are native to very dry, hot climates.
Here in Oregon the summer is dry enough, but spring is too cool and wet.
The trees get all sorts of disease in the spring, though they look all right
in the summer. Pistachios will live here, but grow about one inch a year
(literally) and never bear.
You'd need a good, dry greenhouse to grow them here. I'd wager that the
ones from Uzbekistan are still from a very dry region.
