The temp. here does not hold back the grafts.
If it did we would never get any to take.
Here we are in the 50s and 60s all spring and most of the summer.
This is marine climate with no high temps. except when there is a jet stream mixup.
When we have a 70 degree day we think we are having a heat wave.
That is why we are limited in the fruits we can grow.
The late type apples like granny smith are a no no.
They never stand a chance of ripening.
Grapes are very chancy.
Kiwis have to be ripened inside after harvesting them just before the first frost.
Peaches are limited
Early apples, pears , asians and berries are our best crops.
For example a Shinsetsu is just a hard as a rock small ball when frost comes.

My grafts are all very slow this year, It is do to the cool weather. They take longer in cooler weather. I have had plenty of moisture all spring, but not over abundent. The grafts are taking twice or more as long with this weather.
I am still grafting dorment scion wood. It looks like we may get back into 70's and low 80's by week end. It has been in the 50's and 60's for a couple weeks.

I have noticed the same thing.
I think some graft compatibility issue is at work.
This particular mating is not meant to work.
I notice that even if you wait and let them alone, they never seem to
grow particularly well.
