Maybe this is a dumb question, but is there anything difficult about
hand pollination? I assume the basics are to snip off the pollen
bearing parts of the female target before they mature, then bag it to
keep out the bees, and use a q-tip or something to move some pollen from
the male target.
I've only hand-pollinated indoor plants, and only to insure SOME
pollination, not to select the father, so I've only tried the q-tip part
(which works fine for big open flowers, such as pome fruits) but I
assume the rest isn't too hard. I'd use my little fingernail scissors
if I wanted to remove the stamens from the flowers.

a much needed cool drizzle all day. It's a shame it didn't come before
all the blossoms opened. Everything from forsythia to apples is in
bloom.
