Derry's idea:

>I use a washer which is about 2" wide and has a 1/2" hole in the middle.

>I put this over the rootstock when I am about to make the cut for the
cleft
>graft. If the knife slips, it hits the washer before it hits my fingers.

>I've saved myself many cuts by using this washer.

>I was given the washer and it is plastic and I don't know where to get
more
>or I'd be distributing them to my grafting friends
