Hi,
Tom's idea for this type of repair graft is something that I've been
wondering about myself, however I neglected to mention that in my earlier
post.
The picture in my mind is that of replacing what was chewed off, either by
butting up or grading the cambium layers. I think it would work provided
the material used is compatible. I would not seal anything but join the edges
with vertically set paper staples and tightly wrap the whole. The main
problem in my opinion is getting a smooth straight specimen to work with.
Everyone knows that the only trees that ever get girdled are the lumpy,
bumpy crooked ones! .........vic
