Warning - off topic:

Chris, My Stewartia seems to be dying this year, too. I bought it as a
baby, and it wasn't expensive, but I've been disappointed. The first
year it took off. Since then, it seems to have been downhill. I think
part of the problem is competition from my neighbor's seedling crabapple
that she didn't get around to pulling up. Darn thing flowered this
year, and now I assume she'll want to keep the scab-covered thing.

My Nanking cherry arrived dead from a company that's now out of business
(serves me right for ordering something alive from such a lousy place,
but still disappointing.)

Over all, it's been a really good summer in the garden, though. My
Northern Spy grafted fine, and seems to be growing well. Good luck
trying again.

Best,
Ginda
