- Subject: [nafex] Hole in Apple tree
- Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 11:19:38 -0700
A fellow phoned me today. He has a big old apple tree which gives great
fruit and
it had a 'hollow' in the side (probably European canker). This hollow has now
deepened and is holding water.
What can he do to fill the hole so it doesn't hold water?
I've seen photos of old apple trees filled with cement. Does this work?
What are
the negatives of doing this? Any other suggestions?
I thought he might be able to drill a hole in such a way that the hole empties
after every rainfall. I should mention that he lives in an even rainier area
than I do ... against the North Shore mountains.
All suggestions gratefully received,
Thanks,
Derry
