Ginda
I understand what you are saying as to the weather. We have had cool wet
weather and not much sun for about three weeks now. and the scions I have
done are alive from that time, but are not pushing much. If I could get a
few days of sun and in the seventies I believe that will change. It is
supposed to happen this Sun and Mon at least. I have been holding back on a
lot of grafting till warmer weather. Pawpaws, filberts and chestnuts are
fairing quite well but very slow.
Good luck.

Yes, I overlapped them. The ones I left uncovered were mechanically the
neatest of the lot, too. But when I checked them a few weeks later, the
rubber had oxidized & developed that cracked, "old rubber band" look,
and the scions were dead. Rather to my surprise, the ones covered with
a single layer of masking tape over the rubber mostly did well. I also
did some with cloth tape covered with grafting wax, which did very well
until I tried to remove the tape.
I had worse luck this year. Partly, the weather and my schedule didn't
cooperate. Some were done too quickly in weather that was too cold.
Partly, I used the best grafting sites on my crab last year, and I used
branches that were less straight, and harder to match neatly. I'm still
waiting to see how the ones done with strips of plastic bags did. Most
are still alive but haven't sprouted. I did this batch too late, so
that may be the problem.
