I would imagine that holly, an evergreen, would root in the
spring--considering what Ed Fackler has written about hormones for rooting
moving lower in branches near or at the onset of dormancy. The rose
cuttings I rooted with a potato were done in the spring, but in a climate
where there were never any killing freezes.
