I suspect that it is, indeed, a selection of Morus alba, the white mulberry.

Bill MacKentley at St. Lawrence Nursery offers a cold-hardy M.alba
selection, "Northrop". Don't know that it's any better than a
run-of-the-mill M.alba, but it has been proven to be hardy in a pretty cold
climate.
