Here in New Mexico hypothermia almost always occurs with dehydration,
and I gather treatment frequently starts with an IV bag of saline
that a responder has been carrying in their clothing. Of course that
requires a responder who is trained and licensed to administer IV in
the field, and a medical director. SAR subjects often are hours' or
days's travel from the nearest point of access to an ambulance.
