Thank you very much Una and Irv for your information and useful advices!
There are many people interested in MSAR here but I don´t know how many will sign up on this e-mail list. So I´d like to ask if it is okay to use information from these e-mails when we start to make our guidelines for MSAR (with references ofcourse)?
I assume we must require certain basic and advanced courses to make proper MSAR riders, proper horses and training, equipment, find out what kind of projects we are capable of and in what kind of situations/landscape.
A bit more on our horses/ponies:
In
According to what you are saying about air scenting I assume our horses could be good candidates for that. They are generally raised in large heards in open spaced fences or even up in heaths and have to use their senses a lot, mainly for food, communitation and weather forecast. Since I started discussing MSAR here I´ve heard quite a few stories from people about Icelandic horses finding the way in bad weather or beeing homesick tracking the way home over long distances. Many of our horses are used in long distance tours or sheep gathering in the autumn that can be very difficult job. So I´d say there is quite a lot of knowledge available of what they are capable of, when it comes to endurance and landscape that they can handle etc. From experience I know horses can get really exited chasing sheep or calves and even allert you if you are missing some. Maybe they could be considered as gamey horses.
Irv, if it would be possible for you to send me CD´s that Una spoke of with some articles about MSAR that would be well appreciated. The address is: Skolaflot 14, 311
Best greetings,

Thanks! Of course, no ride in New Mexico has the buzz of Bandera.
We love visitors. I have been wanting to run a big ride here for
years but highway access is extremely limited and the highways and
main local roads have been undergoing huge construction projects
for over 5 years now. There is just one more big project pending.
