I think Joe Houston is asking about electric fencing for use while in the
field with horses overnight. A 5-gallon bucket kit isn't very packable,
unless you bring along a pack horse!

There are some electric fence kits marketed for horse packing, but I have no
experience using them. I don't know how satisfactory they would be for
saddle packing (meaning without a pack horse).

I do have one experience saddle packing a battery about half the size of a
standard vehicle battery. I found the only way to carry it, given my soft
saddle bag system, was to tie it to the saddle horn so that it fit snugly on
the skirt below the swell and in front of my thigh. The battery was far too
heavy (dense!) to be allowed to move against the horse; risk of bruising is
too high. Figuring out how to tie the battery on the horn took me a while.
Before then, during a working trot and canter deployment from trailhead to
search area, the battery moved enough against my leg that I developed a large
and very deep bruise myself.
