In over 20 years of experience we have had one injury due to a broken bottle
and it was in a creek at a well used ford. The damage did require surgery
to rebuild the lacerated area but a quick first aid response by the rider to
stop the bleeding, and pack the area with pressure bandages the horse was
saved and the vet got there as the trailer was pulling into the barn, about
a mile away. The paint gelding was doped up by the vet and he worked on a
blue tarp. When riding in a public area you have to keep your eyes open for
bottles and cans.

I have seen worse damage done by fence wire.
